High Country Crime Stoppers Looking for Street Sign Thieves; 23 Signs Stolen in Boone

March 3, 2021 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: During the weeks of February 8 through February 19, a total of 23 street and parking signs were stolen from several different neighborhoods within the Town of Boone. The neighborhoods affected are the streets around Highland Avenue and Stadium Drive as well as streets around Windy Drive and Yosef Drive. The total cost for the Town of Boone to replace these signs is $920. The Boone Police Department is asking that anyone with information regarding the theft of these street signs or of the identity of the suspect(s) in this crime or any other crimes, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 828-268-6959 / 828-737-0125 or the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6900.

Crime Stoppers Searching for Suspects Involved in Thefts at Two Local Businesses


February 26, 2021 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: During the daytime hours of February 23, 2021, the Boone Police Department responded to two reports of theft at retail establishments, suspected to have been committed by the same two individuals. Two white males, in their twenties, were observed inside of Mast General Store (630 West King Street) and are suspected of stealing more than $700.00 worth of merchandise. The same two males are suspected of theft, in excess of $2500.00 worth of art supplies, from Cheap Joe’s Art Supply (374 Industrial Park Drive). The two males were captured on surveillance footage and were last observed leaving the area of West King Street, Boone, in a white Kia sedan.

Crime Stoppers Seeks Help Identifying Suspect in Boone Drug Breaking and Entering


February 10, 2021 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: On Saturday Morning February 6 an unknown suspect broke into Boone Drug at New Market Centre. After gaining entry to the store, the suspect took items from the pharmacy and fled in a black passenger car. The suspect is described as having a thin build, around five feet ten inches tall. He is wearing a dark hooded jacket with a zipper in the front, athletic pants, black shoes with white soles, and a blue medical mask. District Judge Sentences Three Meth Traffickers Following Investigation by Local Authorities


January 29, 2021 Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the sentencing of three individuals for their involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking ring that operated in Ashe, Watauga and Caldwell counties and was investigated, in part, by detectives from the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office. On Thursday, January 28, 2021 U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell handed down sentences ranging from 120 to 144 months to the following defendants: Christy Lee Latham, 43, of West Jefferson, N.C. Lathem was sentenced to 144 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Latham pleaded guilty to methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy and distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Latham’s sentence was enhanced due to her violation of her conditions of supervised release for a prior federal methamphetamine trafficking conviction.

Suspect Arrested Following Shooting that Left One Man Dead in Ashe County Saturday Evening


January 4, 2021 Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of a Reginald Steve Elledge for the shooting death of Leonicio Ramos Guerrero in the Fleetwood area. At approximately 7:40 P.M. on Saturday, January 2, Ashe County 911 Dispatch received a call advising that an adult male had just shot another adult male at a home in the 400 block of Little Gap Road. The caller advised telecommunicators that the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene in a white Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Law enforcement officers were given a description of the suspect’s vehicle. West Jefferson Police Officer Mike Miller observed a vehicle matching the description pull into the parking lot of Lowe’s hardware in West Jefferson where Miller was able to stop the vehicle and take Elledge into custody without incident.
