The Blowing Rock Community Foundation is proud to announce the
scholarship recipients for 2030. The nine students pictured below will
join the current twenty scholarship recipients for a total of
twenty-nine scholarships awarded for the 2026-2027 academic year.
These students will be awarded a total of $150,000 during this
academic year.
These new scholarship students include Janie Beach-Verhey – Davidson
College, Elijah Brown – Montana State University, Jack Garrett –
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, William Greene –
Appalachian State University, Lucas Hamilton – University of North
Carolina at Charlotte, Kora Knight – North Carolina State University,
Mikey Portante – Citadel, Lily Stough – North Carolina State
University, and Ansel Westerman – University of North Carolina or
University of Utah.
Six scholarship recipients graduated this May –Lily Brown from
Guilford College, Ryan Fox from Appalachian State University, Cristen
Hamilton from University of North Carolina at Asheville, Emma Knight
from University of North Carolina at Asheville, Jilliam Russert from
Appalachian State University, and Zade Tincher from University of New
England. Elle Nichols graduated from North Carolina State University
in December, 2025.
The Foundation initially awarded one full scholarship (including
tuition, room and board, and books). In 1999, Amber Teague Bratt was
the first Foundation scholarship recipient to complete her
undergraduate degree. Since then, one hundred sixty plus students have
received scholarships totaling over $1,800,000. Of that number, over
ninety seven percent have graduated with undergraduate or associates
degrees and many have, or are in the process of, obtaining advanced
degrees.
The Foundation is very proud of these scholarship recipients both past
and present! Many thanks to all of the members of the community who
have contributed time, talent, and resources to support the Foundation
and the amazing young people
