The Wonderland Woods Productions team has produced, yet again, two more powerful videos, which were screened yesterday at The New Public House in Blowing Rock. The videos, commissioned by Blood Sweat and Gears, are titled, “BSG 2014: More than a Ride” and “BSG 2014 – 100 Miles,” depict the positive impact that the annual charity ride has made on those less fortunate and the brutal challenge of cycling to the top of Snake Mountain. A delightful smorgasbord of the arts awaits you on Friday, Aug. 22 at the Harvest House in Boone. The Watauga County Arts Council’s annual fundraising event is fast approaching. Tickets are available for $75 and there are still tickets available. Tickets can be purchased at the door of the event, but the council recommends purchasing tickets in advance. The Artfull Palette, one of the oldest events of the Arts Council, has enjoyed a recent updating and the new location at Harvest House is perfectly suited to this newly revised event. Read more…

For six years in a row, this event has provided entertainment, laughter and funds to benefit the Blowing Rock Community Foundation. The Aug. 10 premiere signaled the first of three events this year, where 58 performers strutted their stuff in front of the crowd. This year features local faces performing acts like Barry Manilow, the Jackson 5, Beyonce, Rod Stewart and Tina Turner and many more. In March, staff with the Belk Library Digital Collection posted an H. Lee Waters silent film of the Boone area from 1936 on YouTube. The 11-minute video, which is fascinating, depicts scenes of dozens of passersby on King Street in downtown Boone and numerous historic buildings in Watauga County and on the campus of ASU such as the Boone Post Office, former courthouse, Farmer’s Hardware and what is now known as the Historic Cove Creek School. Sept. 16, 2013. More than a 1,000 people – not including families of the contestants – walked through the gates for the fourth annual High Country Cowgirls and Cowboys Rodeo, an event sanctioned by the Junior Southern Rodeo Association that is held near Deep Gap.
“It went very well. We were blessed with wonderful weather, and we had a huge crowd both nights and raised a lot of money for local kids,” said Gary Knight, an organizer of the rodeo and general manager of Mack Brown Chevrolet, the headlining sponsor of the event. Read more…
