Aug. 16, 2013. Tina Turner, LMFAO, The Jackson Five and more were spotted in Blowing Rock! No, its not a Hollywood throwback, it’s Groovy Nights at Blowing Rock Country Club.
Now in its fifth year, Groovy Nights at Blowing Rock Country Club is three nights of fun, music, laughter and excitement for the entire family.
“Groovy Nights is a three-night lip sync performance done by people in our community,” said Wendy Estes, director of Groovy Nights.
“We have music from the 70s like the Jackson Five all the way up to I’m Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO. Every age can relate to a song, and it’s just a really good time.”
But Groovy Nights isn’t just fun and games. The event serves as a huge fundraiser for the Blowing Rock Community Foundation.
“The reason Groovy Nights started was because the Community Foundation needed a way to generate more funds,” Estes said.
“You can have a great time and also be doing good for the community. I always say that it takes a community to make a better community.”
The show for tonight is sold out for seating, but because of overwhelming response to the show, the club has opened up tickets for standing room only. The ticket price includes refreshments and a cash bar.
“The phone has been ringing off the hook. I promise, you will enjoy it just as much standing as you would sitting,” Estes said.
Over 230 people came out to last year’s show, and this year the turnout is even bigger, making this year’s Groovy Nights the biggest one yet.
“It’s amazing to me how many people give of their time to make Groovy Nights a reality. We have 56 performers this year, more than we have ever had, and so many people are coming out to the show. It’s great.”
It is recommended that interested guests call for reservations for standing room, as it is filling up quickly.
