The Publix supermarket located in Boone will welcome customers with its grand opening on Wednesday, April 5 at 7 a.m. Publix Super Markets is located on the old Kmart property at 1620 Blowing Rock Road.
The Boone location is called Publix at Three Creeks. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening is slated for 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Publix Super Markets held a job fair in February. A spokesperson for the company said that Publix at Three Creeks is “fully staffed, yet we always welcome interested candidates to apply in our stores at the job application kiosks.”
“It is best to do this at least two weeks after the store opens,” said Kimberly Reynolds, media and community relations manager of the Charlotte Division.
Publix began construction last year with a demolition of Kmart in the spring.
Publix purchased the old Kmart property last fall from a group of developers that made a cool $3.5 million by sitting on the property for about year. The group – Equity Resource Partners III LLC of Georgia, Granite Falls Land & Investment of North Carolina, Watson Commercial Development Inc. of North Carolina and Robert Carroll Carver of North Carolina – bought the property from Kmart for nearly $7 million in June 2014 and sold it to Publix for $10.5 last fall.
The building square footage totals 49,000 square feet and includes a drive-thru Publix Pharmacy.
