BOONE, NC – High Country Radio is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Foster to the multi-faceted role of News Director, Classic Hits Morning Show Host, and Programming Manager. A veteran broadcaster with deep roots in the Carolinas, Foster brings decades of experience to the High Country airwaves, where he will oversee the station’s news operations and day-to-day programming strategy.
Foster’s transition to the team begins soon, as he is scheduled to start as News Director on March 30 across all four High Country Radio stations. Listeners can look forward to his debut as the Classic Hits 100.7 & 99.1 Morning Show Host with “Coffee & Classics with Paul” on April 6 weekdays from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Foster joins High Country Radio following a distinguished tenure at WNCW 88.7 FM, the listener-supported station based at Isothermal Community College. Local listeners may already find his voice familiar, as he spent years as a Morning Show Host, Senior Producer and the News and Public Service Coordinator at WNCW, frequently contributing regional reports and features. Foster also managed stations in the past, worked parttime for WBT Newstalk Charlotte, and served as both a fundraiser and news director for Gardner-Webb University radio, where he also served as the school’s assistant director in the Public Relations Office.
In his new capacity, Foster will lead the newsroom’s mission to provide timely, local coverage for the High Country community. His morning drive show Classics & Coffee on Classic Hits will blend the region’s favorite timeless tracks with essential local updates.
“Paul is a consummate professional whose voice and leadership will be invaluable to our team,” said Erica Lackey, High Country Radio General Manager. “His unique ability to balance the rigorous demands of a newsroom with the engaging personality required for morning radio makes him the perfect fit for our growing organization. His experience will help us continue our mission of having a local heart with a regional reach.”
Foster’s appointment reinforces High Country Radio’s unwavering commitment to community coverage. The station remains dedicated to being the primary source for local information, prioritizing the stories that matter most to residents of the High Country. By expanding its news leadership, High Country Radio aims to deepen its connection with the community, ensuring that local events, public service announcements, and regional news remain at the forefront of its programming.
