BOONE, NC: The King Street Farmer’s Market will be hosting a Family Day event with live children’s music, facepainting, games, and important information on how to double your SUN Bucks and WIC benefits!
Join the King Street Farmer’s Market for their Family Day event this Tuesday, June 23rd from 3:30 until 6:30pm. The market will offer live kid’s music with beloved local children’s music entertainer, Mr. Zen, face painting, games, and so much more!

This is also a great time for families to learn more about the summer SUN Bucks program. SUN Bucks is a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) program that provides grocery-buying benefits in a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child on a debit-like card that can be used to buy nutritious food during the summer months when schools are out. At the King Street Farmers Market, SUN Bucks can be doubled in value thanks to the Double Up Food Bucks Program, run by Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture. This gives families twice the spending money for fresh, local produce all summer long! Families can come to the market and show their SUNBucks card to the market managers, and double up to $75 of their benefits!
The market will feature multiple special guests, including The Children’s Playhouse, Watauga Humane Society and the Watauga Arts Council.
The Children’s Playhouse will be sharing information on their summer resources and programs. They’ll also be hosting fun games and activities for kids of all ages during the market!
The Watauga Humane Society will attend the market from 4:00-5:30, bringing along an adoptable pet and information on how to support their work.

The Watauga Arts Council and will be in attendance with their Youth Makers Program. As described by WAC, “The Youth Makers Program provides an exciting opportunity for young artists in and around Watauga County to explore the world of entrepreneurship while selling their craft. These markets empower kids to take the lead in selling their artwork while learning valuable business skills along the way!”. Families are encouraged to visit the King Street Market to help support these young entrepreneurs!
Visit the King Street Farmers Market this Tuesday from 3:30 – 6:30pm at 126 Poplar Grove Connector for games, live kid’s music, community resources, and more as summer nutrition programs begin! The first twenty customers at the manager’s booth will also receive a free Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture produce bag and a frequent shopper card, so come early!
