Event Honoring Chancellor and Mrs. Peacock Held June 27 at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts

June 19, 2014. Community members are invited to attend a celebration honoring Chancellor and Mrs. Kenneth E. Peacock Friday, June 27, at 8 p.m. in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on campus. The event will honor the Peacocks for their 31 years of leadership and service to the university.

Chancellor1Doors open at 7 p.m. with the celebration beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is free but because of limited seating tickets are required. Tickets are available from the Schaefer Center Box Office weekdays and Saturday, June 21 and June 27 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or by calling 828-262-4046. Tickets, limited two per person, are available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets can also be reserved and picked up at the will call window at the center.

The evening will include remarks by university and community leaders, multimedia and live presentations and a performance by a special guest.

Chancellor Peacock steps down as Appalachian’s sixth chancellor at the end of June. During his tenure, Appalachian experienced significant growth in the overall quality of its academics and has launched new or enhanced initiatives in the areas of healthcare and the nexus of energy, the environment and economics. Peacock’s career included time in the Walker College of Business as a member of the faculty, assistant dean, associate dean and later dean of the college. He also served one year as interim provost.

Rosanne Peacock established the chancellor’s residence, Appalachian House, as a home for university events honoring students, faculty, staff and friends of the university. She coordinated numerous events held at the house as well as events held off campus. She hosted the cable television program Inside Appalachian, providing in-depth interviews with faculty, students and other members of the campus community and an inside look at events and programs occurring on campus.
