After all this frigid winter weather, maybe you are looking for a great way to stretch your creative muscles and get back into the artistic swing of things. For months, the Watauga Arts Council has been hard at work preparing to begin their Arts and Crafts workshops for this year and they are elated to be able to launch their first batch.

Thousands of people are getting geared up for one of the most highly anticipated events of Blowing Rock WinterFest:The Polar Plunge! But before participants can leap from the dock into a freezing cold Chetola Lake, a lot of work goes into making a hole so the plungers can jump safely. Snow accumulations continue throughout the High Country as precipitation continues to fall throughout the afternoon. Nov. 22, 2012. Blowing Rock’s Christmas in the Park and Lighting of the Town celebration starts today, Friday Nov. 23, with events starting at 2 p.m. Highlights include a visit from Santa, hayrides through the town, free hot cider and hot chocolate, caroling in the park, lighting of the town and bluegrass Christmas. And tomorrow on Saturday the Cristmas Parade begins at 2:00. Earlier this year Blowing Rock was one of a dozen locations selected by Travel and Leisure magazine for inclusion in its list of America’s Prettiest Winter Towns. The magazine’s editors said, “The Blue Ridge Parkway passes by this century-old mountain tow, whose Main Street has shops for antiques, crafts, even dulcimers.”
Nov. 12, 2012. Earlier this year Blowing Rock was one of a dozen locations selected by Travel & Leisure magazine for inclusion in its list of America’s Prettiest Winter Towns. As winter sets in, Blowing Rock looks forward to hosting visitors and locals alike for the holiday season.
March 9, 2012. UPDATE: This winter Boone has only seen 13.7 inches of snow as of the first week of March with spring not far away. Additionally, road salt usage by the NCDOT has been down significantly and independent contractors have not been called in as frequently.
