Oct. 8, 2012. Florence Thomas Art School is hosting a Gala & Benefit Auction on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 2 -5 p.m. at Boondocks Restaurant in downtown West Jefferson. The gala will include great food and wine, live music and an auction of original works donated by the school’s instructors.
Sept. 26, 2012. The Ashe County GOP is sponsoring a “Meet ‘n Greet” for incumbent Rep. Jonathan Jordan Friday, September 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the new Republican headquarters in West Jefferson. If you have questions to ask or would just like to express your opinion to your North Carolina representative, stop by. Coffee, drinks, and refreshments will be served.
Sept. 13, 2012. Once again it is time for the “Apple Pie/Cobbler Contest” to be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Ashe County Farmers Market on the Back Street in West Jefferson. Look for the events tent on the grassy area just behind the market and bring your homemade pies or cobblers to be judged.
Aug. 31, 2012. Campaigning for the N.C. Senate, Roy Carter hosts a hot dog dinner on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. in his hometown at West Jefferson Town Park.

Aug. 10, 2012. The next Wordkeepers salon will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ashe County Arts Council in West Jefferson at 303 W. School St. At 3 p.m., prior to the 4 p.m. readings, musicians Henry Doss and Scot Pope will play their original music.
Aug. 7, 2012. The drama “Tongues of Fire,” a Book Fair, the Release of “Mountain Memoirs, An Ashe County Anthology,” a Quilt Fair, Farmers’ Market, and Gallery Crawl provide nearly non-stop entertainment in Ashe County, the coolest corner of North Carolina.
