She is survived by her children; Arnold Parlier and wife Brenda of Granite Falls, Charles Parlier and wife Willa Deane of Mountain City, Sandra Parlier of Elk Park, James Parlier of West Jefferson, Linda Biggs and husband Gary of Elk Park, and Jeff Parlier and wife Sondra of Morganton, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, one brother; Richard Waldecker of Michigan, and two sisters; Gerry Riley and Delores Tyson both of Michigan. Born July 19, 1933, in the Blackberry region of Caldwell County, she was the daughter of Edmund and Zora Ford Hamlet, and was the youngest of nine siblings. She is survived by her son Mike and wife Micki of Blowing Rock and two granddaughters, Cassandra and Kathryn; her sisters Eula Young of Bishopville, SC and Kathy Steele of Gainesville, FL; brother-in-law Jim West of Newnan GA; sister-in-law Virginia Hartley of Boone; special friends Johnny Tester of Phoenix AZ, Duane & Janelle Addison of Boone, Aubrey & Elizabeth Riley of Boone; many nieces and nephews, and her loving church family. Oct. 16, 2012 Arvil Clayton Greene, 78, of American Legion Road, Greer, SC, passed away Tuesday morning, October 16, ,2012 at the home of his son, Rev. Roger Greene in Greer, after a lengthy illness. Arvil was born in Watauga County to Clayton Carroll Greene and Rosa Bryan Greene. He graduated from Appalachian State Teacher’s College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education and Social Studies. During his career, he was a social worker, a HUD worker, and retired as an insurance salesman. Arvil enjoyed gardening, playing checkers, walking on the beach, flea marketing, and especially, talking and joking with people. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Lauderdale, Florida, she was a daughter of Ann Gainey Cappell and the late Jack Cappell. Judy was a construction designer of her company, Starview Designs. She also formerly owned and operated Mountain Magic Craft Store in Foscoe and Starview Gallery in Blowing Rock, and was manager of Yonahlossee POA. Her hobbies included knitting, playing tennis, her arts, and especially her travels to the beach. Mrs. Townsend is survived by her husband of 19 years, Danny Townsend; her mother, Ann Cappell, and brother, John David Cappell, both of Boone; her mother-in-law, Nora Ellen Townsend of Boone, and her faithful doggy friend, Gypsy. Born October 26, 1925, he was saved at a young age and he is now home with the Lord. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and brother. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Edward and Emma Pennell, two brothers Earnest and Dean Pennell and two grandsons, Jamie Pennell and Mark Pennell. He is survived by Irene Pennell; his wife of more than 60 years; two sons, A. J. He loved music, and animals, but had a special place in his heart for Rufus, his Black Jack donkey. Doug was an ardent baseball fan and follow most games of his favorite team, the Oakland A’s. After his diagnosis with a brain tumor in March, Doug became an inspiration to those who know him be keeping his keen sense of humor and generous spirit. Doug was born April 26, 1945, in Merced, California. Her served in the Navy and then graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. May 30, 2012 Mrs. Betty McNeil “Granny” Miller, age 71, of Howards Creek Road, the Rich Mountain Community, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 30, 2012 at home. Born October 7, 1940 in Watauga County she was the daughter of the late James and Verlee Ragan McNeil. Mrs. Miller was a faithful member of Rich Mountain Baptist Church. Affectionately known as “Granny” throughout the community, she was a farmer; raising vegetables, cabbage and tobacco for many years. She loved working outside; her church; her community; but mostly she loved her family. Hoyle B. Coffey, D. May 12, 2012 Hoyle B. Coffey, age 70, of 1018 Payne Branch Road, Blowing Rock, died Saturday evening, May 12, 2012, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center in Wilkesboro. Mr. Coffey was born June 16, 1941 in Watauga County, a son of the late Justin and Frances Triplett Coffey. He attended Blowing Rock High School, then served in the United States Army for two years. He returned to live in Blowing Rock where he worked at Blowing Rock Ski Lodge and ABC Store, before starting a stone supply business. He most recently worked at the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Hoyle was a devoted husband, father and brother. His quick wit and sense of humor made a lasting impression on his many friends.
