July 6, 2015. For the last ten years, the Elkland Art Center has hosted the Liberty Parade in celebration of Independence Day: a vibrant expression of the High Country’s strong community spirit presented through elaborate and colorful costumes, props and giant puppets. The parade took place on a field at the corner of Highway 194 and Railroad Grade Road in Todd, attracting 350-450 people. By Josiah Clark
June 4, 2013. The day that many in the High Country have been waiting for is almost here! The opening day for the long-anticipated Todd Summer Music series is set for June 8, and the opening band is scheduled to be a fittingly local band, The King Bees.

Aug. 7, 2012. The Blue Ridge Mountain Throwdown is a 3-day weekend of 7 races, based at Cooper’s Farm on the New River. Since 2010, Cooper’s Farm in Brownwood in Todd has dished-out a beast of a running course. Now in 2012, athletes can test their moxie on foot, on wheels, and in the water.
July 31, 2012. Though the High Country – Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties – has experienced nearly 250 foreclosure filings this year, the percentage of local foreclosure filings has actually dropped 17 percent during the same period last year – from January through June.

July 2, 2012. Join in the community art, fun and freedom at the Liberty Parade! This year’s theme is on the element of Air. The High Country community has designed banners, made pinwheels, windsocks and all kinds of beautiful things that are enlivened by the air connecting us all.
June 27, 2012. With only six days remaining until Elkland Art Center’s Viva la Lib “AIR” Todd Liberty Parade on the Fourth of July, the center is asking for the help of the community to make this special event possible and ensure its success. This unique event is the only one of its kind in the High Country.
