David Kafitz, who was hired nearly eight months ago, and from a public-relations standpoint, his first year at the helm of Watauga County Schools so far reached a tipping point after a regrettable incident at the Mellow Mushroom in downtown Boone.

Aug. 9, 2012. Dr. David Kafitz, the new Watauga School Superintendent, and Steve Medlin, the new Caldwell Community College, Watauga Campus Director, updated the Chamber’s Education Committee on issues and programs important to the advancement of education in Watauga County.
Aug. 1, 2012. Members of the Watauga County Board of Education will attend a convocation Friday morning in the Watauga High School auditorium to discuss loose plans, outline, hopes and goals for the upcoming school year. The meeting will also give new Superintendent David Kafitz the opportunity to introduce himself to school personnel he hasn’t had to chance to meet.
