The Annual Shag at Sugar Mountain Held Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Sugar Mountain Golf Clubhouse

After being postponed due to rain earlier this month, the annual Shag at Sugar Mountain will finally take place on Saturday, Aug. 23. The event will be held from 4:30-9 p.m. at Sugar Mountain Golf Clubhouse located at 1054 Sugar Mtn Dr. in Sugar Mountain. “The first one was in 2010 to celebrate our 25th anniversary as a township,” said Tammy Floyd, Clerk at the Village of Sugar Mountain. “But people loved it so much and asked for it again and again so we obliged and made it an annual event.”

Oct. 31, 2012. Now includes photo gallery! Sugar Mountain Ski Resort opened today Wednesday, October 31 — Halloween — for day skiing and snowboarding. In its 43-year history, Sugar Mountain Resort’s earliest opening was on Nov. 5 in 1976. Early risers Jamie Borden, Rosie Hewitt and Ashlet Cutrell, members of the Appalachian State University Alpine Ski Club, were at the mountain at 8 a.m. to be a part of history with the early opening.

SUGAR MOUNTAIN — On Sunday, March 4, Sugar Mountain celebrates the life of the late Dick Trundy, a decorated Marine Corps General and aviator who served as Sugar Mountain Ski Resorts Director of Operations after his retirement from the service. Trundy was an avid skier who enthusiastically embraced the daily life of a ski area executive. Unfortunately he died of cancer in 2002.
