From the moment former President Bill Clinton took the stage last night and uttered the words, “Fellow Democrats, we are here to nominate a president and I’ve got one in mind,” to the conclusion of his speech, the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte was abuzz; and Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson and Council Member Andy Ball were front and center for the whole thing.

Mayor Clawson Selected as Delegate for 5th District at Democratic Convention; Ball’s Bid Unsuccessful

Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson (right) was selected as one of the women delegates for the 5th District in North Carolina for the Democratic Convention to be held in Charlotte on the first week in September. She was selected after winning more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round. The 5th District consists of Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Davie, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties and parts of Forsyth, Iredell, and Rockingham. Boone Town Council Member Andy Ball (left) did not make the cut on the men’s side, which required at least a 50 percent of the vote in one of the selection rounds. See photo gallery…
