Funeral services are incomplete at this time. Mrs. Goodman is survived by: Two sons Donnie Goodman of Knightdale Alan Goodman of West Jefferson Three daughters Joyce Blevins of West Jefferson Brenda Garland of West Jefferson Linda Harless of West Jefferson One brother Roger Wyatt of West Jefferson Fourteen Grandchildren, Twenty-three great- grandchildren and several nieces & nephews also survive. New Races at Blue Ridge Mountain Throwdown Sept. 21 to 23 – Run, Cycle and/or Kayak on Cooper’s Farm

Aug. 7, 2012. The Blue Ridge Mountain Throwdown is a 3-day weekend of 7 races, based at Cooper’s Farm on the New River. Since 2010, Cooper’s Farm in Brownwood in Todd has dished-out a beast of a running course. Now in 2012, athletes can test their moxie on foot, on wheels, and in the water.

Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood Watch in Effect for Ashe, Wilkes, Watauga Counties Until Late Tonight

July 24, 2012. A severe thunderstorm watch, flash flood watch and hazardous weather outlook are in effect for parts of the High Country until late tonight, according to the National Weather Service. A severe thunderstorm watch 510 is in effect until 8 p.m. for Ashe, Wilkes, Watauga and Yadkin counties.

Mr. Phipps is survived by: His wife Grace Ann Gregg Phipps 1 son Matthew Phipps of Greenville, NC 2 daughters Barbara Phipps of Townsend, Delaware Beth Wilhelm of Alworth, Georgia 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. James Stirl Eldreth, D. July 14, 2012 Mr. James Stirl Eldreth age 87, of Warrensville, NC died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Westwood Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Wilkesboro, NC. Mr. Eldreth was born on October 2, 1924 in Lansing, NC to Virgie Eldreth. Mr. Eldreth was preceded in death by his mother and his wife, Nancy Eldreth. Mr. Eldreth was a member of Sugar Tree Baptist Church. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Eldreth worked at Thomasville Furniture for many years. April 30, 2012. After three years of pondering, planning and renovating, the F.A.R.M Café opens to the public for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day’s main entrees include grilled chicken with mango chutney and whole wheat penne pasta with spinach, tomato and red pepper sauce.

Recent Frost Wipes Out Half of Grandfather Vineyard’s Crop; Growers are ‘Still Not Out of the Woods Yet’

April 13, 2012. Recent cold temperatures devastated at least one grower in the area – Grandfather Vineyard and Winery. Last night, a frost wiped out nearly 50 percent of its grape crop. The vineyard survived a mediocre frost a few days ago but not Thursday night’s cold-weather assault.
