It is known by many different names, but almost everyone in Boone has at one time or another looked up and seen the strange black mansion on Howard’s Knob. After seven years abandoned and the former owner sent to prison, it is now in shambles after break-ins, many wild parties and frequent vandalism.

High Country Real Estate Market Continuing to Recover; Listings Sold Up 31 Percent from this time Last Year

July 16, 2012. Halfway through 2012 there is continued evidence the High Country real estate market is recovering. Listings sold are up 31 percent compared to this time last year, and more than 42 percent compared to the first six months of 2010. The average time for homes to be on the market is declining. Inventory is staying strong. And the dollar value of sold properties continues to slowly increase.

Watauga/Avery/Ashe Real Estate Report: May a Strong Month for Property Sales; Over 100 Property Listings Sold

June 15, 2012. May was a strong month for High Country property sales, with more than 100 listings sold for the second time in the last three months, and just the fifth time in the last 30. The 104 realtor-assisted sales last month were the second most for the year, according to the High Country Multiple Listing Service which tracks transactions in Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties.

April Has Second Best Real Estate Numbers for 2012

May 10, 2012. April had the second-best real estate sales numbers for the year so far, as the region continues to record much better sales figures compared to a year ago, according to the latest High Country Real Estate Report. There were 88 realtor-assisted property sales last month worth $22.51 million, as recorded by the High Country Multiple Listing Service.
