Watauga County Obituaries – Compiled June 1, 2012 Mrs. Betty M. Miller, D. May 30, 2012 Mrs. Betty McNeil “Granny” Miller, age 71, of Howards Creek Road, the Rich Mountain Community, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 30, 2012 at home. Born October 7, 1940 in Watauga County she was the daughter of the late James and Verlee Ragan McNeil. Mrs. Miller was a faithful member of Rich Mountain Baptist Church. Affectionately known as “Granny” throughout the community, she was a farmer; raising vegetables, cabbage and tobacco for many years. She loved working outside; her church; her community; but mostly she loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 54 years; Dan Miller, one daughter; Mary Jane Norris and husband Bobby, one son; Danny Miller and wife Kenda, four grandchildren; Neko Worley and husband Chuck, Danielle Bledsoe and husband Joey, Kendra Hayes and husband Chris, and Robby Norris and wife Skylar all of Boone; seven great grandchildren; Michael Worley and wife Jessie, Brad Worley and wife Nicole, Graham Bledsoe, Abbei Bledsoe, Kylea Bledsoe, Madason Hayes and Makenlea Hayes, three great great grandchildren; Ava Worley, Brooke Worley and Bristol Worley all of Boone; and one brother; Jimmy McNeil and wife …

Watauga County Obituaries – Compiled May 7, 2012 Gary Ervin Potter, D. May 5, 2012 Mr. Gary Ervin Potter, age 50, of Pottertown Road, Todd, passed away Saturday morning, May 5, 2012 at home. Born July 9, 1961 in Wilmington, Delaware he was a son of the late John Denver and Elizabeth Gordon Potter. Gary attended Elk Knob Baptist Church. He was a former employee of New River Building Supply. Gary was retired from the National Guard, and had served actively in Operation Desert Storm. He is survived by his wife; Beth Townsend Potter; two daughters; Jeanette Potter and Cassie Trivette and husband Jake of Todd, one son; Gary Potter of Todd, six grandchildren; Wayne, Bobby Abigail, Steven, Tristen, and Heather; one sister; Ruth Potter of Hickory, three brothers; Wayne Potter and wife Rita of Deep Gap, Larry Potter and wife Laura of Creston, and Jerome Potter of Boone. He was preceded in death by his parents; John Denver and Elizabeth Gordon Potter. Memorial services for Mr. Gary Potter will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Faith Baptist Church, 507 State Farm Road, Boone, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Sonny Younce and Rev. J. C. Watauga County Obituaries – Compiled May 1, 2012 Oscar “Ozzie” Godwin, Jr., D. April 29, 2012 Oscar “Ozzie” Godwin, Jr., age 85, of Teaberry Hills, Boone, died Sunday evening, April 29, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center. Mr. Godwin was born November 22, 1926 in West Palm Beach, Florida, a son of the late Oscar O. Godwin, Sr. and Marie Murray Godwin. He was a retired elementary school principal, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Boone. Mr. Godwin also served in the United States Navy. Mr. Godwin is survived by two daughters, Cindy Godwin of Roswell, Georgia and Carolyn Godwin of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; one sister, Shirley Roberts and husband Joe of Indiana, and two cousins, Mel Wiles of Jacksonville, Florida and Jerry Wiles of West Palm Beach, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helena L. Godwin. Memorial Services for Oscar “Ozzie” Godwin, Jr. will be conducted Saturday afternoon, May 5, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Grace Lutheran Church in Boone. Officiating will be Pastor Derick Boggs. Entombment will follow at the Grace Lutheran Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall, following the memorial service. Flowers …
