Born October 31, 1919 in Watauga County he was a son of the late John Clay and Esther Jane Eller Miller. Clyde was a farmer and a member of Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons; Fred Miller and wife Libby, and Mike Miller, two grandchildren; David and Rebecca Dawn Miller Harmon all of Boone, and great granddaughter, Eva Grace Harmon of Boone; two step granddaughters; Treva Hardy of Boone and Kimberly Rominger of West Jefferson, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Ella Grace Miller, his special friend; Sarah Greene, 5 sisters; Pearl Winebarger, Lois Winebarger, Chessie Winebarger, Blanche Osborne, and an infant, and 4 brothers; Van, Clint, Ford and Ward Miller. During his career, he was a social worker, a HUD worker, and retired as an insurance salesman. Her hobbies included knitting, playing tennis, her arts, and especially her travels to the beach. He loved music, and animals, but had a special place in his heart for Rufus, his Black Jack donkey. Doug was an ardent baseball fan and follow most games of his favorite team, the Oakland A’s. After his diagnosis with a brain tumor in March, Doug became an inspiration to those who know him be keeping his keen sense of humor and generous spirit. Doug was born April 26, 1945, in Merced, California. Her served in the Navy and then graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology.
