Spring is now in full swing (even if it is a little chilly) and that means that soon enough the local farmers’ markets will be gearing up for the 2014 season. The markets provide a rare chance to see where your food and other items are coming from, and meet all of the people in person who make it happen. So grab the family and your reusuable shopping bags and head down to your local market to see what your community has to offer.

Watauga County Farmers’ Market Currently Accepting Vendor Applications for 2014 Market Season

The start of a new year means brand new vendors present at the Watauga County Farmers’ Market. The market is currently accepting vendor applications for the 2014 Farmers’ Market season this summer. Each year, the board looks at the pool of applicants and decides which are most appropriate for the Farmers’ Market. Everyone who wants to be included must apply each year, even returning vendors from previous years.

August Art Crawl Again Offers Friday Night Fun in Downtown Boone; Round-up of Events Included

Aug. 1, 2012. On Friday, Aug. 3, downtown Boone businesses will participate in the monthly First Friday Art Crawl. Per usual, this month’s installment will feature free food, drinks, and music along with work and exhibitions from local artists. And as always, locals and tourists young and old are invited to attend and enjoy the Friday night fun.

March 8, 2012. UPDATE: Kirsten Mitchell, chef at Cameo 19 Hundred in Wilmington and formerly at Morel’s in Banner Elk, has made Food & Wine magazine’s list of top professional chefs. She is currently vying for the title of The People’s Best New Chef for 2012 and is now in third place in the voting!
