Oct. 4, 2012. “A Log’s Life,” by W. Pfeffer, is a wonderful story telling the life cycle of a tree. Come listen to the story on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m., then take a short hike to discover a log’s life up close.
Sept. 17, 2012. Over the past few years, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s Kids in Parks program has been installing a network of kid friendly hiking trails, called TRACK Trails, on and in communities along the Blue Ridge Parkway. To date, the program has installed more than 15 trails in the regions surrounding the Parkway; and in partnership with several land management agencies.
Aug. 30, 2012. The 8th Annual Elk Knob Community Headwaters Day will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. Enjoy live music, wagon rides, games, environmental programs, bee keeping, hide tanning, weaving, geology information and a delicious potluck lunch – all against the backdrop of Elk Knob and Snake Mountain.
Aug. 6, 2012. Come every Saturday in August and join the staff at Elk Knob State Park as they work on a new trail from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet at the Summit Trail parking lot. Bring comfortable shoes, a packed lunch, water to drink and work gloves. Come to work all day or just part of the day.
June 4, 2012. Come to Elk Knob State Park for their June 2012 programs. Their programs include a Summit Trail hike, a Hummingbird meet and greet, insights on the life of a park ranger and The Great American Back Yard Campout. Bring the whole family and enjoy these fun and educational programs.
