Hospitality House to Hold 30th Anniversary Luncheon Aug. 22 to Honor Six Founding Churches

The Hospitality House Board of Directors and Hearts of Hospitality Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting the annual Hope Luncheon Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. Held for the third consecutive year at the picturesque Wats Gap Pavillion at Blue Ridge Mountain Club; this year’s luncheon, 30 Years of Hope, will celebrate thirty-years of Hospitality House providing a safety net for people in need while honoring the six founding churches for their leadership, vision and dedication.

Ring in Spring at the 2014 Boone in Blossom Festival May 2-4 to Benefit the Hunger and Health Coalition

In celebration of a long-awaited Boone spring, the fourth annual Boone in Blossom Festival will bring a weekend’s worth of local art, music and community service to the High Country May 2-4. Hosted by the Boone Community Network and presented by Gati Productions, Boone in Blossom and its fall sister festival Harvest Boone promote local community service, music, and visual and healing arts.

Relay for Life of Watauga County will hold the 2014 Kick-Off event on Thursday, Feb. 6. The event will be held at Deerfield United Methodist Church on Deerfield Road in Boone. Registration and welcome will begin at 5:45 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Top Relayers and teams from 2013 will be recognized, along with Team Captains and teams who have participated in early registration challenges for this years’ event. Who would have thought that jumping into a hole in an icy lake while wearing wild, wacky costumes would become one of the most time-honored annual traditions in the High Country? What sounds like crazy is apparently a lot of fun for tons of residents and visitors to the High Country every single year. Blowing Rock’s WinterFest celebration provides the backdrop to the annual Polar Plunge, where this year costumed citizens will leap from the dock into a freezing cold Chetola Lake on Jan. 25-for a good cause of course. by Madison V.
