Aug. 10, 2012. “It’s been interesting – to say the least.” Referring to The Festival of Gnarnia taking place until Sunday morning, that phrase is recurring among locals atop Beech Mountain. With an influx of 5,000 people, many of them tour kids from out of state who are following the festival circuit, Beech is experiencing a bit of a culture shock.

Ashe County Community Read 2012 Looks to Send Participants on “Journeys”

July 31, 2012. August 2012 is just around the corner which means so is the start of Ashe County’s Community Read, an annual county-wide engagement in the reading and discussion of a selected book. For Community Read 2012, Ashe County residents are encouraged to participate by reading the book “Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-eyed Stranger” by part-time Ashe County resident and award-winning author Lee Smith.
