July 25, 2012. Update! When the Town of Boone agreed to front the DBDA $750,000 to purchase the gutted Appalachian Twin Theater last fall, some felt this was a terrible decision – especially in light of the struggles haunting the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock.

Aug. 2, 2012. The old theater on King Street is looking better than it has in four years. Staff of Boone Public Works Department continue to dress the outside of the old Appalachian Twin Theater, constructing the black and white facade that has the letter “A” centered above the old entrance.
Town staff began working on the outside of the theater two weeks ago, eliminating or painting over the boards tagged with graffiti and cleaning up some of the “rough-looking” bricks. All of this enhancement is intended on spurring interest and generating excitement about the capital campaign, which is currently in its silent phase, to purchase and restore the old theater.
