Sept. 17, 2012. Volunteers are being sought for a research study of the effect of the supplement Wellmune WGP on immune function and anti-viral activity. The research study will measure the effect of ingesting Wellmune WGP, which contains a special molecule from baker’s yeast that may enhance the body’s immune system.

Sept. 13, 2012. Area singers are invited to join the Appalachian State University Gospel Choir for a rehearsal Oct. 20 at Boone United Methodist Church. The rehearsal begins at 9 a.m. and will end at noon. The Summit Choir will perform in concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 at Boone United Methodist Church.

Sept. 6, 2012. M.S. Shook Student Health Service at Appalachian State University has achieved reaccreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Accreditation distinguishes the campus health clinic from many other outpatient facilities by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.
Sept. 6, 2012. Western North Carolina’s economic health improved in July, posting a 0.4 point gain, marking the third monthly increase in a row and halting a two-month slide. The index, compiled by the Center for Economic Research & Policy Analysis at Appalachian State University, tracks the level of economic activity in 25 western North Carolina counties.
Aug. 30, 2012. Appalachian State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance announces its 2012-13 season, featuring comedy, drama and dance. The fall semester will feature seven productions: First Year Student Showcase, “Noises Off,” North Carolina Dance Festival, “Middletown,” Butoh Dance Theatre, Fall Appalachian Dance Ensemble and Playcrafters’ New Play Festival.
Aug. 22, 2012. At the regular Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21, Appalachian State University was granted a special public hearing on Sept. 11. The hearing will pertain to a rezoning request for property off of University Hall Drive.

July 25, 2012. Appalachian State University has established formal relationships with high schools in China as part of its international student recruitment effort. Dr. Jesse Lutabingwa, associate vice chancellor for international education and development, recently led a delegation from Appalachian to visit the Chinese high schools.
July 12, 2012. The Town of Boone and ASU haven’t always had a good rapport, but the relationship has improved as both entities work closer together. As ASU expands – both in student enrollment and as a local landholder – and if the “anti-annexation” legislation trend continues, one official warns this “balanced” relationship may wilt.

July 12, 2012. Boone Police have charged Curtiss Stafford, age 24, of Boone, NC with three counts of felony Embezzlement. This was subsequent to an investigation into several checks that were written and cashed for personal use out of his fraternity’s account, in which he was the acting treasurer.
July 3, 2012. The seven-year “Campaign for Appalachian,” a campaign to raise $200 million for academics, arts and athletics at Appalachian State University, is currently ahead of schedule and may end up surpassing the fundraising goal by 2014.

May 15, 2012. ASU baseball added another monumental achievement to its ever-growing 2012 resume on Monday when it entered Baseball America’s college top-25 poll for the first time. Appalachian comes in at No. 24 nationally in this week’s Baseball America rankings.
May 4, 2012. According to The Appalachian student newspaper, the names of four students involved in various sexual assault charges have been released. This comes after months of controversy about the university withholding the names from the public.
April 21, 2012. A tenured professor of sociology at Appalachian State University has been placed on administrative leave following complaints last month from four students about her “inappropriate speech and conduct in the classroom,” including showing a movie about pornography.
