July 11, 2012. The Blowing Rock Town Council approved the the annexation of 25 acres owned by the Appalachian Regional Healthcare System. These 25 acres were recently purchased by ARHS and adjoin 43 more acres, also previously annexed, for a future hospital in Blowing Rock.

March 26, 2012. Richard Sparks, President and CEO of Appalachian Regional Healthcare System (ARHS) has announced administrative structure changes for the healthcare system, effective April 1, 2012. Sparks named Mr. Chuck Mantooth as President of Watauga Medical Center in Boone.
