For the last ten years, the Elkland Art Center has hosted the Liberty Parade in celebration of Independence Day: a vibrant expression of the High Country’s strong community spirit presented through elaborate and colorful costumes, props and giant puppets. The parade took place on a field at the corner of Highway 194 and Railroad Grade Road in Todd, attracting 350-450 people. By Josiah Clark

Echota Families and Friends Donate 500 Pounds of Food to Hardin Park Elementary Distribution Program

July 23, 2012. Echota’s annual Fourth of July celebration was a welcome reprieve from June’s soaring temperatures in western North Carolina and it also benefited local school children. More than 500 people escaped the steamy humidity in the lower elevations and attended Echota’s family-focused event bringing food donations for the Hardin Park Elementary School food distribution program.
