June 24, 2014. A New York Yankees legend will speak in Blowing Rock on Tuesday, July 22.
Each year, the Men’s Connection Bible Study has a guest speaker, and this year that person is former second baseman Bobby Richardson. Thee event will take place in the Evergreen Room at Chetola Resort at 8:30 a.m.
Jim Steele said that some of the members knew Richardson and that he agreed to talk about “his testimony and about baseball and it’s relation to baseball” with the non-denominational group. The public is invited.
Richardson is the only World Series MVP to ever be selected from the losing team. That occurred in 1960. He was an eight-time All-Star, a three-time World Series champion and a five-time Gold Glove Award winner.
He played on one of the most-dominant teams in the history of the game, one that featured Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris.
As Steele said, Richardson was a “marvelous player.”
