Wrestling Inks Two During Early Signing Period

Nov. 28, 2012. Appalachian State University wrestling head coach JohnMark Bentley announced the signing of two student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent for the 2013-14 season.

High school teammates Nick Kee (Laurinburg, N.C./Scotland County) and Adrian Soto (Laurinburg, N.C./Scotland County) will hit the mats for the Mountaineers beginning next season.

Kee is a two-time state champion and was a runner-up at Junior Nationals. Kee also holds second place and fifth place finished at Super 32. In 2011, Kee was the Sophomore Nationals Champion and named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the WRAL Tournament.

Kee finished his junior season with a 58-0 record.

Adrian Soto – Laurinburg, N.C. – Scotland – proj. 165/174

Soto was a state runner-up in 2012 after placing third in 2011. Soto is projected as one of the top wrestlers in North Carolina at 160 pounds.

This year’s Mountaineers return to the mats on Tuesday, Dec. 4 as they open Southern Conference play, hosting Gardner-Webb. That match is set for 6:30 p.m. at Varsity Gym.
