July 31, 2014. Appalachian State University’s annual Football 101, held this past Wednesday, sold out yet again. The program is now in its 11th year and was designed to engage another segment of the Mountaineer’s fan base.
“Obviously, we’ve got great fans across the board and this is just a way to particularly engage our female fans and is something that has proven to be popular,” Mike Flynn, ASU Athletics sports information director, said. “It’s grown exponentially [since its inception] and is a sold out event and has been for the past several years.”
Each year, the event is open to all females ages 21 and older and is among the many events that have happened and are happening to kick off the 2014 football season, one which is Appalachian’s inaugural season in the FBS’ Sun Belt Conference. Yesterday, head coach Scott Satterfield and his staff took the ladies inside the huddle at Kidd Brewer Stadium and offered instruction on the rules, positions and strategies of the game.
And for those have attended the event in the past, a Football 201 was offered to showcase more advanced features of the game. The event, which cost $30 and featured free babysitting for children aged 5 through 13, included dinner, cocktails, gift bags, door prizes and a special opportunity to purchase the latest App State merchandise from the University Bookstore.
