Oct. 2, 2013. With an impressive three touchdowns in the first five minutes of the game Friday the Watauga High School Pioneers crushed the Saint Stephens Indians.

Before the half, the Indians trailed the Pioneers by 14. During the second half of the game the Indians began to regain their footing by scoring a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters.  However, it was not enough to stop the Pioneers offense.

Ryan Habich, head coach for Watauga High School, commended the Indians on their effort in the second half.

“They did a good job of controlling the ball in the second half,” Habich said. “We only ran three plays in the third quarter, and they had the ball for ten minutes.”

Total time of possession for the Indians was 36 minutes.

Habich believes that the Pioneers throwing game is progressing, but there are still things to work on.

“We made a lot of mistakes on the defensive side of the ball.” Habich said. “But we threw the ball really well in the first half, we wanted to start off fast, and get a big lead, so they could not catch up.”

Even though the Pioneers are sporting an undeafeated record right now, Habich wants his team to keep improving.

“We always tell the kids to take it one game at a time,” Habich said.  “We need to improve each week as our competition gets more stiff as the weeks go on.”

The Pioneers will take on Fred T. Foard High School Tigers (0-5) Friday at Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m.
