In its first three drives of the game, the Pioneers put 21 points on the board.  A scoreless third quarter led to an explosive fourth quarter, where the Pioneers put up a goal-line stand against the Eagles that led Watauga to its second to last touchdown of the night on a 99-yard drive.

“I think we played fairly well,” Pioneers head coach Ryan Habich said. “Our kids are getting better each week, and that’s the important thing.”

This week the Pioneers will begin its conference play against Saint Stephens High School Indians (0-4). Over the past three years, the Pioneers (4-0) have one victory against the Indians. The two years before the Indians beat Watauga.

Habich is concerned about the Indians running game, because of the Indian’s use of misdirection from the shotgun formation.

“If we don’t play assignment football it could cause us problems,” Habich said. “They have speed with their running backs, it’s the strongest point of their team.

Habich is going to use the week to continue working on his offense.

“We have to do a better job of blocking down field and blocking until the whistle,” Habich said.

The Pioneers with play the Indians from Jack Groce Stadium at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
