Jan. 22, 2013. Skiers and snowboarders participated in Week 2 of SMARL (Sugar Mountain Adult Race League) on Monday night. The second week of racing was postponed due to “really tough” conditions last week, according to Kim Jochl of Sugar Mountain Resort.
However, Monday’s conditions on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day were nearly excellent.
“It was great. Weather was perfect. Conditions were real good. I think it was 25 degrees – no wind, almost clear skies. Pretty comfortable night for racing,” Jochl said.
Banner Elk Café provided pizza in the Last Room Lounge on Sugar Mountain Resort for the 85 racers.
