Oct. 14, 2014. On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Woolly Worm Woad Wace kicked off at the Williams Gymnasium track at Lees-McRae College. The five-mile foot race wound through the beautiful countryside of Avery County and through the town of Banner Elk.
This challenging course pushed the participating athletes to conquer elevation changes and showcased the majestic beauty of one of the High Country’s best kept secrets.
The top three men’s finishers were John Williams of Banner Elk, Sean Dunlap of Sugar Grove and Oliver Kreimer of Greensboro. The top three female finishers for the event were Allison Phillips of Newland, Amy Greene of Minneapolis and Terri Lindley of Statesville.
