July 30, 2012. Appalachian State University football led all teams with 10 players that earned recognition on the preseason all-Southern Conference teams that were announced during the league’s Media Day on Thursday.

The Mountaineers’ league-high 10 preseason all-SoCon selections include three first-team honorees: junior quarterback Jamal Jackson (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta), senior linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough (Decatur, Ga./Cedar Grove) and defensive back Demetrius McCray (Covington, Ga./Newton).

Appalachian’s second-team honorees include sophomore offensive lineman Kendall Lamm (Charlotte, N.C./Butler), junior wide receivers Andrew Peacock (Durham, N.C./Northern Durham) and Tony Washington (High Point, N.C./T.W. Andrews), sophomore defensive lineman Ronald Blair (Greensboro, Ga./Greene County), senior linebacker Brandon Grier (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte), senior defensive back Troy Sanders (Chester, S.C./Chester) and senior punter Sam Martin (Fayetteville, Ga./Starr’s Mill).

The preseason all-SoCon teams are selected by the league’s coaches, with coaches prohibited from voting for their own team’s players.

In the SoCon’s preseason polls, the conference’s coaches picked the Mountaineers to finish second behind Georgia Southern while the league’s media voted Appalachian third behind GSU and Wofford. The Apps received two of the nine first-place votes in the coaches’ poll to finish just six points behind Georgia Southern, who snapped Appalachian’s record-tying string of six-straight SoCon championships last season, and a comfortable nine points ahead of Wofford. The Mountaineers received one first-place nod in the media poll to place just two points behind Wofford.
