The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2016 football schedule on Thursday, a slate that includes at least two nationally televised games for Appalachian State University.

Coming off a Sun Belt-record 11-2 campaign, second-place conference finish and Raycom Media Camellia Bowl championship, Appalachian State opens league play on Saturday, Oct. 1 at home against Georgia State. The Mountaineers also host Sun Belt contests versus Idaho (Saturday, Oct. 22), Texas State (Saturday, Nov. 5) and UL Monroe (Saturday, Nov. 19).

Appalachian State’s first two conference road tilts of the season will be shown on national television — Wednesday, Oct. 12 at UL Lafayette (ESPN2) and Thursday, Oct. 27 at longtime rival Georgia Southern (ESPNU). The Mountaineers are also slated for road games at Troy (Saturday, Nov. 12) and New Mexico State (Saturday, Nov. 26).

Appalachian State’s eight-game conference slate comes after it opens the season with four-straight non-conference tilts, highlighted by a home contest versus five-time national champion Miami (Fla.), which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17. The Mountaineers begin the 2016 season at Tennessee (Saturday, Sept. 3), open the home slate versus Old Dominion (Saturday, Sept. 10) and close out the non-conference portion of their schedule at Akron (Saturday, Sept. 24).

Appalachian is currently scheduled to play in two of the Sun Belt’s six already-announced nationally televised games on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU this season. Per the conference’s contractual agreement with ESPN, one more game involving a Sun Belt institution will be selected soon to be played on a Thursday or Friday and televised nationally on an ESPN network.

Appalachian State season tickets are on sale now and are the only way to ensure tickets for the home battle versus Miami, as season-ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase additional seats for the Miami contest before single-game tickets go on sale to the general public. To secure your seats for the most anticipated home schedule in school history and help Appalachian reach its goal of 7,500 season tickets sold in 2016, log on to appstatesports.com/tickets, call (828) 262-2079 or visit the Appalachian State athletics ticket office, located at the Holmes Center.

Online ticket sales are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week while tickets can be purchased by phone or in person between 9 a.m-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
