The skiing and snowboarding conditions could be any better with the recent seven inches of fresh snow falling on the ski resorts in Blowing Rock, Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain.

“They are fantastic. It’s beautiful out for one, and the snow is nice and light and fluffy, so it’s easy to ski through, and on our website, we’re just calling it a powder day,” Kim Jochl, marking director of Sugar Mountain Resort, said early on Thursday. “It’s pleasant out. It’s not frigid and no snow guns are going.”

Sugar Mountain Resort, which has all of its slopes and lifts open, has a base between 40 and 100 inches after seven inches falling last night and another six to seven inches falling earlier in the week.

“What else can I say? The skiing and riding this weekend is going to be awesome. It’s idea for the last week of February,” Jochl said.

With Thursday being a snow day for local schools, Sugar Mountain Resort has “snow day rates” for grade-school teachers and students. See the discount prices here.

Just up the highway from Banner Elk is Beech Mountain Resort, where Talia Freeman, marketing director of Beech Mountain Resort, said the conditions are just as “incredible.”

“These are by far the best conditions we have had all ski season. I definitely encourage our customers to capitalize on this fresh powder!” Freeman said. “It’s incredible!”

Beech Mountain Resort has a base of 48 to 86 inches. All of its 15 trails are open and 20 features are waiting for some slick tricks in the terrain park.

Beech Mountain Resort also has discount tickets for students and teachers on this snow day under the promotion titled “School Daze.” Click here to see what discounts are available.

In Blowing Rock, Appalachian Ski Mtn. has the music blasting on the slopes as folks are enjoying the day, when the weather is perfect for skiing and snowboarding and when the snow conditions are just exquisite.

Appalachian Ski Mtn. has a base of 55 to 79 inches. All of the slopes and terrain parks are open. Appal Jack has new rail features setup for all abilities and Appal Jam has four new jump options.
