Sept. 12, 2014. Five former Appalachian State University football standouts are currently on active National Football League rosters. Here is a look at how the former Mountaineers fared in Week One action:

Detroit Lions second-year punter/kicker Sam Martin averaged 54.5 yards on two punts in the Lions’ 35-14 win over the New York Giants. Martin’s game-long 57-yarder was pinned inside the Giants’ 20-yard line. He also kicked off seven times with six resulting in touchbacks.

San Francisco 49ers fourth-year offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore started at center in the 49ers’ 28-17 win at Dallas. Kilgore had a key block on rookie running back Carlos Hyde’s four-yard touchdown run.

St. Louis Rams third-year wide receiver Brian Quick started and led the Rams in receiving with career highs for receptions (7) and yards (99) in St. Louis’ 34-6 loss to Minnesota. Quick hauled in a game-long grab of 23 yards.

New Orleans Saints third-year running back Travaris Cadet started for the Saints and caught one ball for five yards and returned his only kickoff for 34 yards in New Orleans’ 37-34 overtime loss at Atlanta.

Jacksonville Jaguars second-year defensive back Demetrius McCray did not record any statistics in the Jaguars’ 34-17 loss to Philadelphia. However, McCray did down a punt inside the Eagles’ 20-yard line.

Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Andrew Peacock and Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver Tony Washington are currently on their teams’ respective practice squads.

Third-year wide receiver DeAndre Presely is on the Carolina Panthers’ physically unable to perform list. Presely was unable to participate in training camp this summer due to a leg injury sustained during offseason workouts. Players designated for the PUP list must sit out the first six games their team plays. At that point, teams have a five-week window to allow the player to begin practicing and, from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional 21-day window to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.
