Athon Sports tabbed Appalachian State University football head coach Scott Satterfield as one of college football’s “Top 15 Coaches on the Rise for 2015” in an article issued on Monday.

The article, written by Athlon college football columnist Steven Lassan, says that “Appalachian State’s first year (2014) in the FBS ranks shouldn’t go unnoticed” and that Satterfield, the Mountaineers’ third-year head coach, has “got the program trending up entering the 2015 campaign.”

After a 1-5 start in 2014, Appalachian State won its final six games to finish 7-5 in its first NCAA Division I FBS campaign. All six wins to close the season came against Sun Belt Conference opponents, propelling the Mountaineers to a 6-2, third-place finish in their first year in the league.

Appalachian State’s six-game winning streak is the fifth-longest in FBS going into 2015, behind only defending national champion Ohio State (13-straight wins), Boise State (9), TCU (8) and Memphis (7).

Of the 14 other coaches featured on Athlon’s “On the Rise” list, Satterfield and the Mountaineers go head-to-head against four this season — Old Dominion’s Bobby Wilder (Sept. 26 at ODU), Wyoming’s Craig Bohl (Oct. 3 at Kidd Brewer Stadium), Georgia Southern’s Willie Fritz (Oct. 22 at Kidd Brewer Stadium on ESPNU) and UL Lafayette’s Mark Hudspeth (Nov. 28 at Kidd Brewer Stadium).

Appalachian State season tickets, including a slew of full- and half-season packages, are on sale now. Tickets, which are available for as low as $99 for the full season (six home games) and $65 for a half-season package (three home games), can be purchased online at appstatesports.com/tickets, by phone at (828) 262-2079 and in person at the Appalachian State athletics ticket office,
