‘Probably Couldn’t Be a Better Weekend For Cycling’ This Weekend; Rocky Knob Fest Saturday

By Paul T. Choate

Oct. 26, 2012. On Saturday, Oct. 27, Rocky Knob Park on U.S. 421 just east of the Boone city limits will be hosting Rocky Knob Fest during a big weekend in the High Country for dirt/mountain cycling enthusiasts.

“It probably couldn’t be a better weekend for cycling in the High Country,” said Reid Boyeloni with Magic Cycles.

The festival will run from 1 to 5 p.m. and will include guided rides by Boone Area Cyclist members and members of the Appalachian State University cycling team. Magic Cycles will be on hand with Giant Demos and 2012 Reign’s will be sold at a special price.

Barbecue and burritos will be available throughout the afternoon at $7 per plate. Bald Guy Brew will also be on hand roasting a special “Rocky Knob Double Black Diamond Brew.”

There will also be a raffle held featuring local goods to benefit the Boone Area Cyclists and the ASU Recreation Management Association’s student scholarship. One raffle ticket comes with purchase of a plate of food and additional tickets are available for $1 a piece.

A special deal has been worked out with the Marriott where out-of-towners attending the festival will be able to enjoy a discount “Rocky Knob Fest rate.”

Also on Saturday will be an ASU cyclocross race at the Boone Fairgrounds on Roby Green road. It begins at 1:30 p.m. and more details on it can be found here. Additionally, on Sunday is the Boone-Town Throw-Down, another cycling favorite in the High Country, also held at the fairgrounds starting at 10 a.m. Additional details on that event can be found here

The Boone Fairgrounds are located at 748 Roby Green Road.
