Oct. 2, 2012. On the strength of his record-tying third 100-yard effort in as many games, Appalachian State University wide receiver Sean Price (Reston, Va./South Lakes) has been named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Price, a redshirt freshman from Reston, Va., caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in Appalachian State’s 55-14 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Price, who also topped 100 receiving yards in each of his first two games of the season, tied Appalachian’s all-time record with his third-straight 100-yard game. Brian Quick (2011), DaVon Fowlkes (2004) and Bob Agle (1968) are the only other Mountaineers with three-consecutive 100-yard receiving games.

Price, who is the only freshman in Appalachian State history with multiple 100-yard receiving games, leads the Mountaineers with 26 receptions for 361 yards and five touchdowns despite playing in only three of the team’s first five games. With only three games played, he does not qualify for the official NCAA statistical rankings, but if he did, he would rank fifth nationally in receiving yards (120.3/gm) and sixth in receptions (8.7/gm) while leading the SoCon in both categories. Despite playing just three games, his 361 total receiving yards are good for 27th nationally.

MOUNTAINEERS MOVE UP TWO SPOTS IN POLLS: After a dominating performance on both sides of the ball in the 41-point win over Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State moved up two spots in both major NCAA Division I FCS top 25 polls this week. The Mountaineers come in at No. 15 in The Sports Network’s media poll and No. 14 in the American Football Coaches Association rankings.
