With a base upwards of 60 inches after several days of snowmaking, Appalachian Ski Mtn. has all nine slopes and all three terrain parks are open.

The cold temperatures and sunny skies have been a blessing for the resort lately, especially considering the rainy weather and record warm temperatures around the holidays, which provide a significant portion of the resort’s business for the season.

“Conditions are amazing right now! Peak season for sure,” ASM spokesman Drew Stanley said, adding that the resort will continue to make snow after hours when the weather conditions are ripe.

Yesterday, ASM posted a picture of the snow machines working on Facebook with a caption, “Now this is how winter should feel. Snow is really starting to pile up on all the slopes now.”

And the conditions on the slopes are perfect currently because of all the new snow that’s been produced since the temperatures recently turned chilly.

As SkiSoutheast.com posted earlier this week with words that still ring true, “App can really lay down some snow and it only took two nights of snowmaking to completely transform the mountain from bare ground to a complete winter wonderland. They had 8 slopes open (and still do today) and coverage was insanely good.  The weather was perfect with bluebird conditions and temperatures just above freezing.  It was awesome!”

Upcoming Events

This weekend, Appalachian Ski Mtn. hosts two events – Burton Ladies Park Night and the Smith Shred the Cup Rail Jam. Here are details on both events from the ASM website:

Burton Park Ladies Night takes place on Saturday, Jan. 9 with registration beginning at 5 p.m.

Ladies Park Nights highlight a custom terrain park area with features specifically designed for learning and progression that will be open to ladies only. Trick tip coaches are on hand for the event to offer advice if needed. This event is free with purchase of a ski ticket and open to women of all age, ability, both ski and snowboard!

The ATP Crew is planning on taking advantage of the coming cold temperatures to make as much snow as possible. Ladies can expect a fun, mellow setup with plenty of rail, box, jump and jib options to have fun on!

Registration will be in the Alpine Ski Shop from 5-6:30pm, and the session will begin at 7. As always, this event is FREE with the purchase of a ski ticket!!

Coming up this week, Appalachian Ski Mtn. has a couple events, including Burton Ladies Park Night, which takes place on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 5 p.m., and the Smith Shred the Cup Rail Jam, which begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10.

Shred for the Cup Rail Jam takes place on Sunday, Jan. 10, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.

App Terrain Park will kick off the 10th Annual Shred for the Cup Series on Sunday, January 10 with the Rail Jam! Winter looks like it is on its way for the first part of 2016, allowing ASM to make lots of snow for some fun rail options at this event.

Competitors can register online and save $$, as well as download and fill out the Registration Form and Waiver to speed up the event-day process.

The Shred for the Cup Series has become the benchmark competition series in the region, with 3 events held throughout the winter season that test skiers & snowboarders skills in a variety of park disciplines (Rail Jam, Big Air, and Slopestyle). As always, the series has categories and features that cater to all skill levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) of both skiers & snowboarders, as well as a dedicated Women’s category in both ski and board.

Remember that points are given out for placement at each SFTC event, and are tallied throughout the season to determine the overall series winners that receive the coveted Series Cups!
