Oct. 24, 2012. Appalachian State University men’s basketball will host its Black & Gold Scrimmage on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Holmes Center. The intrasquad contest will give fans a chance to see the Mountaineers in action before their first exhibition game with Lees-McRae on Nov. 2.

Appalachian returns six players, including one redshirt, from last year’s squad. The Apps also have nine new players on this year’s roster.

Seniors Jamaal Trice and Nathan Healy are back for their final seasons in the High Country. Junior Brian Okam also returns alongside sophomores Tab Hamilton and Mike Neal. The group is bolstered by the addition of redshirt-sophomore Jay Canty, who practiced but sat out all games last season per NCAA transfer rules after coming to App State from Xavier.

The newest group of Mountaineers consists of three transfers in junior Tevin Baskin and Tommy Spagnolo along with sophomore Dustin Clarke. A total of six freshmen have joined the Apps for the season.

Wednesday’s contest will be played in a normal game format with 20-minute halves, but players will be allowed to switch teams at the discretion of the coaching staff.

Admission to Wednesday’s scrimmage is free of charge to all fans.
