Feb. 15, 2015. All four winter resorts – Appalachian Ski Mtn., Beech Mountain Resort, Hawksnest and Sugar Mountain Resort – have all of their ski/snowboard slopes and tubing lanes open for President’s Day Weekend.

While local students will be going to school on Monday, weather permitting, the skiing conditions will be in “great shape,” as Beech Mountain Resort spokesperson Talia Freeman said on Friday afternoon.

It will be cold though – very cold. RaysWeather.com is forecasting a low of 17 degrees on Friday, low of 0 degrees on Saturday and a low of 9 degrees on Sunday. Factor in the wind chill, and Saturday night and early Sunday will feature wind chills of negative-30 degrees in the valley and negative-40 degrees on the mountaintops.

Freeman noted that Beech Mountain Resort is cutting back on snowmaking this weekend because “we feel very confident in our product.”

15 of 15 slopes will be open atop Beech Mountain this weekend. Plus, two live bands will be playing on Saturday night.

“Super conditions this weekend,” Sugar Mountain Resort spokesperson Kim Jochl said on Friday afternoon.

Appalachian Ski Mtn. has all 12 slopes and terrain parks open this weekend, too. Appalachian Ski Mtn. features a base of 42 to 66 inches.

Plus, the terrain parks feature new rail features and jump options for all abilities.

On Friday, the Appalachian Terrain Park is partnering with Dragon Optics once again to host the signature Go Big or Go Home session, which starts at 7 p.m.

“The crew plans to construct a fun, unique setup in the Appaljack Terrain Park, complete with a brand spankin’ new park feature that has yet to touch the snow! A fun jam session will ensue Friday night, with standouts winning some amazing prizes from Dragon,” according to a release from the resort.

Registration for the event is free and will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Alpine Ski Shop.

Hawksnest Tubing hasn’t released its weekend report, but on Friday, Feb. 13, the resort has 33 lanes open. While three sessions have already occurred for the day, tubers still can catch the 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. sessions.

“It will be a cold one so bundle up and come tubing,” according to Friday’s tubing report.

Depending on the weather, zipline tours will also be available.
