Legendary Jerry Moore To Be Honored Oct. 4, Multiple Events Planned Week of South Alabama Matchup

Sept. 12, 2014. Legendary Appalachian State University football coach Jerry Moore will be honored in conjunction with Appalachian State’s inaugural Sun Belt Conference home game versus South Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 4, the University announced on Thursday.

Moore, who compiled a 215-87 record and won three NCAA Division I FCS national championships (2005, 2006 and 2007) in 24 seasons as head coach at Appalachian State (1989-2012), will be recognized during several pregame and in-game events.

Prior to the game, all fans are invited to a meet-and-greet with Jerry and Margaret Moore at Kidd Brewer Stadium’s Senator Jim Broyhill “Welcome To The Rock” Entrance Plaza (located on the northeast side of the stadium at the corner of Stadium Drive and Jack Branch Drive). The Moores will greet fans and sign autographs at the celebration, which will include a commemorative Jerry Moore souvenir for the first 5,000 fans and complimentary refreshments, courtesy of Hardee’s of Boone.

Following the meet-and-greet, the festivities move inside Kidd Brewer Stadium, where the National Football Foundation will recognize Moore for his upcoming induction to the College Football Hall of Fame with its venerable On-Campus Salute.

The On-Campus Salute stands as one of the NFF College Football Hall of Fame’s most hallowed traditions that began with the inaugural class in 1951. Many inductees have cited it as the ultimate experience associated with their Hall of Fame induction, providing them with one more chance to take the field in front of the home crowd. Moore will enter the field through a tunnel lined by family and former Mountaineer student-athletes in attendance and receive his official Hall of Fame plaque, which will remain on permanent display at Appalachian State.

The on-field pregame ceremony will also include an Appalachian tribute to the Moores, led by Chancellor Dr. Sheri N. Everts. Additional recognitions and tributes will be held throughout the game.

Times for the Oct. 4 events will not be finalized until kickoff is set for the matchup between Appalachian State and South Alabama. Per the Sun Belt’s television agreement with ESPN, game times are to be announced no later than 12 days prior to kickoff (which, for the Oct. 4 App State-USA contest, is Monday, Sept. 22).

Tickets for the Appalachian State-South Alabama contest are available now and can be purchased online at appstatesports.com/tickets, by phone at (828) 262-2079 or in person at the Appalachian State athletics ticket office, located in the Holmes Center. Tickets can be purchased online 24 hours a day, seven days a week while phone and in-person purchases can be made from 9 a.m-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
