April 29, 2014. The Director of Lees-McRae Cycling Tim Hall is pleased to announce the travel roster for the upcoming 2014 Collegiate Road National Championships that will take place in Richmond, Va. starting May 2.
Friday is the team time trial, Saturday is the criterium and Sunday is the road race. The collegiate championship is a test event for the 2015 UCI World Road Race Championship and will use the same road race route as the professionals use next year.
“Our goal is to improve upon our eighth place omnium finish from last year and end up on the podium which is fifth place or better,” said Hall.
The defending champion is Marian University of Indianapolis.
The women’s team trail will consist of Erin Donohue, Paige Bisenieks-Robertson, Emily Shields and Katherine Shields. The same quartet will also participate in the women’s road race. Donohue, Robertson, K. Shields and Kaitlyn Lawrence with represent LMC in the women’s criterium.
“The team is anxious to race in Richmond and I believe the courses there suit our riders quite well. The kids are excited at the prospect of winning some medals, which I believe is possible if we are tactically smart throughout each race,” said Hall. “The key will be to make every effort count and finish off the final few kilometers as strong as possible.”
Jose Avila, Dylan Knutson, Christopher Meacham and Matthew Zimmer will hit the course for LMC in the men’s team trail. For the criterium, Knutson, Meacham, Zimmer and Cameron Mancuso will race for the Bobcat squad.
All six LMC men will participate in the road race, which consists of Avila, Knutson, Mancuso, Meacham, Zimmer and Gunnar Bergey.
“Matt and Christopher have been our key guys all season long while Katherine and Paige have been consistently top 5 during the SECCC season. We will do our best to position them for success in the end while also having the others finish of as best as possible,” Hall said. “However, any one of our riders could find themselves in a position for a top result. Having patients, good positioning and a strong belief in ourselves will be critically important.”
LMC is currently sixth in the overall ranking in the 2013-14 season in Division I Team Omnium.
