Appalachian State University associate athletics director for broadcast operations David Jackson resigned from his position on Monday, effective April 29.

“It has been a privilege to cover and work alongside so many talented student-athletes, coaches and staff during my 15 years at Appalachian State. Our crew was fortunate to provide the details for some of the most memorable moments and achievements in the school’s athletics history,” Jackson said.

“However, that work does come with a cost,” he continued. “My time in the booth, combined with my administrative role, did not always provide for the best life balance. I came to the decision to leave my position in the Appalachian athletics department with my beautiful family in mind. I’m excited to explore professional opportunities that allow me to work hard, but more importantly, to experience the joys that come along with being a dad, a husband and a friend. I appreciate the willingness of (director of athletics) Doug Gillin and the Appalachian State athletics staff to work with me as I came to this decision. I wish nothing but the best for the Mountaineers in the future.”

Jackson became the play-by-play voice of Appalachian State football, men’s basketball and baseball broadcasts shortly before his graduation from Appalachian in 2000. He added the title of associate athletics director in 2004.

“We will greatly miss David’s talent and his passion for Appalachian State, both in his role as the ‘Voice of the Mountaineers’ and in everything that he did for our department behind the scenes,” Gillin said. “While he will be missed, I very much respect his decision and wish happiness and success for him and his family.”

Appalachian State will conduct a national search for a new play-by-play voice for football and men’s basketball.
