By Bailey Faulkner

True Appalachian State University sports fans should clear their calendars on Friday, June 23 for the inaugural “Legends Gala” hosted by ASU athletics. The event, which will be held at the stunning Camp Yonahnoka in Linville, will offer attendees a chance to show their support for the university’s athletics.

The gala will feature legendary college football coach Mack Brown along with a number of other longtime sports elites with ties to the High Country. Brown, who was a running back for Vanderbilt and Florida State during his college years, coached football at ASU for the school’s 1983 season. In addition to coaching the Mountaineers, Brown has worked in numerous college coaching staffs since the end of his playing career at Florida State in 1973.

After head coaching his first team during ASU’s 1983 season, Brown moved on to head the Tulane Green Wave from 1985-1987, the North Carolina Tar Heels from 1988-1997 and the Texas Longhorns from 1998-2013. Since retiring from coaching in 2013, Brown has worked as a college football commentator and analyst for ESPN.

Joining Brown will be fellow sports legends with ties to the region Bob Griese, Jerry Moore, Bobby Cremins, Dino Hackett, Sparky Woods, Larry Hand, Ben Sutton of ISP/IMG and former Olympic hurdler Melissa Morrison-Howard.

A table of six sponsorship for the event is $4,000. Table sponsorships include six seats and a “legend” to host the table. You can also reserve a single seat for $500.
