Sept. 18, 2012. Appalachian State University sophomore forward Julia Holz has been tabbed the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 10-16 after tallying two goals and an assist in the 4-2 victory over UNC Asheville on Friday, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Holz scored two second half goals and notched an assist on a Jenna Caudle goal in the 12th minute to propel the Apps to their third win of the season. The Marietta, Ga. native closed out the match with six shots, and four shots on goal.

“Julia had an outstanding week and truly a breakthrough game against Asheville,” head coach Sarah Strickland said. “The tenacity she showed was amazing and it was truly through the effort of all of our forwards that she earned this honor.”

The sophomore currently leads the team with three goals and seven points on the season. Holz scored the most goals in 2011 with five, including three game-winning goals.

Holz is the first player to be named to the weekly honor since Caroline Clarke was tabbed co-SoCon Player of the Week in 2010.  Holz and the rest of the Mountaineers will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 21 when they begin their conference schedule against UNCG. Kickoff from the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex is slated for 7 p.m.
