June 18, 2013. The “Totally Awesome 80’s” are back in the form of a ZUMBAthon to benefit Hospitality House. Taking place Saturday June 22 from 3pm-6pm at the Banner Elk Elementary gym, this fundraiser is poised to be the biggest Zumba event to ever take place in the High Country as it features Zumba instructors from Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
Hospitality House service coordinator and certified Zumba instructor Laura Bullock came up with the idea while brainstorming a way to combine her passions. “I love being a part of Hospitality House and helping people get back on their feet and I love teaching Zumba classes in Avery County,” states Mrs. Bullock. “Throwing a rocking 80’s party for all the High Country Zumba fanatics is like a totally awesome way to raise funds and awareness for Hospitality House.”
In addition to the 1980’s tune-filled afternoon with your favorite ZUMBA instructors like Gwen Dhing (Watauga), Ellen Russell (Watauga), Vanessa Benavides (Avery), Kitty Honeycutt (Ashe) and Kim Hawkins (Wilkes) there will also be “TOTALLY TUBULAR” raffle prizes from sponsors Bare Essentials, Thirty-One Gifts, Little’s Health & Fitness, Makoto’s and Broyhill Wellness Center, a “RAD OUTFIT” contest for best 80’s workout gear and a “TAKE IT TO THE MAX” grand prize challenge for whoever raises the most sponsorship money.
The entry fee is $7 per person, payable at the door, and participants are encouraged to register online at www.hospitalityhouseofboone.org.
